Run Forest Run

Innumerable shocks in the BBC's Torchwood last night.

Shock One: Owen is dead, then undead, then brings Death himself into the world who turned out to be a weird cloudy skeletal thing. Personally I was hoping for Grim from the Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy, but never mind...

Shock Two: Toshiko finally tells Owen that she loves him. But only after he's dead. What can I say? The woman likes a good stiff. Ironically though, being dead, Owen has no blood to move around his body. He can't get it up. He's about as much use as... as... well, Ianto actually.

Shock Three: Owen regurgitates gallons of beer like something out of The Exorcist or Bottom: Guest House Paradiso. Comedy effect of the night bar one...

But the biggest shock of all was realizing this:

Captain Jack Harkness runs like Forest bleeding Gump!

Geez, I always suspected that his mother was Sally Fields.

Any respect that I had built up regarding you, and believe me it was a colossal amount, has just been flushed away by the realisation that you watch Torchwood.

Torchwood makes Blakes 7 look good.
In fact, Torchwood makes The Jeremy Kyle Show look good!

Tut Tut, such a disappointment.

I know Inchy, but I'd hate people to think I was some sort of unobtainably pristine god by constantly leading a perfect, blemish-free existence. Occasionally I allow myself a small lapse just to remind myself what it is to be mortal. Sometimes *gulp* I have even been known to watch Big Brother... but hey, even Jesus hung about with prostitutes and dodgy physicians...

Ok, I'm considering taking out a restraining order on you now.

I have my image to think about.

I bet bloody Gump is immortal too.

Hmm. Another weird thing, Rol, is that I've never seen Tom Hanks and John Barrowman together in the same room...

Inchy said...

That's because there isn't a room yet built large enough to accommodate two egos of that sort of magnitude.

Hi Steve, rather behind with TV viewing. Looking forward to seeing yesterday's Torchwood and this evening's Ashes to Ashes - no doubt you will give us a report on THAT tomorrow! :-)

After "Dead Man Walking" I was intrigued enough to actually switch over to BBC3 and watched the very next installment, "Day in the Death". Gasp! But it was actually quite good and better than "Dead Man" I thought, in the way it delved further into the "Owen living as a dead man" plotline. If you know what I mean. "Living" is not really an appropriate term any more, is it?...And Burn Gorman actually did a very convincing job of playing someone with such a condition and you actually felt for his plight.

Anyway won't say more as you obviously haven't watched the next episode whereas I have, but what I thought was good was that they didn't offer an "easy way out" for Owen - no bringing him back to proper life at the end of "Dead Man". This is a storyline that could potentially run on and it will be interesting to see if there is any resolution/redemption for the character...

And when you say Toshiko "likes a good stiff", what exactly are you referring to, Steve?

Steve said...

Annie, Ashes To Ashes was brilliant - but more on that later! ;-)

OC, by stiff I was of course referring to Toshiko's love of hardware and hardback books... er... of course. Should have been obvious. I'm aamzed I had to explain it to you.

I must admit I'm quite liking the Owen being dead storyline though initially had my misgivings about it. It gives the show a much needed (and sort after) macabre edge. Burn Gorman is giving good value too. I'm quite looking forward to the next instalment.

But when your that cute does it really matter how you run?

Steve said...

Ally, are you referring to John Barrowman or Tom Hanks? If it's the latter I am seriously worried...!

I have a brother and an Uncle both named Owen. Apart from that, your review is great and so great that it has annoyed me...we don't have that programme yet! Wail! Boo hoo!

Steve said...

Sorry to hear that Amanda - I don't mean to torture you with my Torchwood reviews! Has the first series arrived in NZ yet?

Noooooo! (More wailing and flailing and general miserable behanviour).
We 're lucky to even get the weather first.
