I had grand plans this week for a whole host of scintillating posts and internet based ribaldry but alas illness has laid me low. What started off as a nasty head-cold for me and Tom developed yesterday into an alarmingly debilitating fever which, I hasten to add, we have both now begun to recover from – Tom’s 9 month’s old immune system kicking in a lot harder than mine. He’s crawling around the floor this morning insinuating himself into as much mischief as possible.
I however am still moping around like a wet rag.
But there’s something quite nice about it today. I’m feeling better than I was – enough to actually enjoy being ill. I’m watching trashy TV and making my way through all 7 Harry Potter books. I haven’t got to return to work until Monday. I feel somehow like I’m skiving off from school.
It’s a great feeling.

just remember to drink lots of fluids...would hate to have you dehydrate...that my friend is not enjoyable!...get well soon...
I prescribe Heir Hunters, Homes Under the Hammer, Cash in the Attic, Psychic Detectives and all the Trisha you can bear.
It'll have you back to work in no time!
Dr Laura :-)

Am doing as you say Daisy, my appetite has been quite badly hit so all I really want to do is drink anyway.
Thanks Dr Laura, you'll be pleased to know I'm taking copious amount of Loose Women too... my desk at work is starting to seem quite attractive...
Hey Steve, as a pure and wholesome woman who surprises people with her occasional nautiness, I think you're right to enjoy being ill on a work day. Treasure this period of rest. If you'd felt your worst at the weekend, that would have been the pits.
I hope you feel 100% soon my friend.
Enjoy it while it lasts, Stevo. There's sure to be some calamity poised around the corner to ruin your day.
Did I mention that I don't have to even think about work for the next 9 days?
Thanks Annie... but you can't fool me with that pure and wholesomeness any longer! Your cover is blown big time!
Inchy, I don't begrudge it you at all, mate. Hope you enjoy it... as we both know those 9 days will pass all too quickly... As for calamities, I'm happy to say that they always seem to happen at work when I'm not there. Even my boss has remarked on this. I think he suspects I have Machiavellian abilities. As if... he he he!
That is soooo annoying getting ill on your week off! It would make me feel kind of cheated....
Anyway hope you're on the mend.
So Loose Women = Trashy TV eh? Anything else on the list?
Good on you, you actually HAVE to recover in work time since you probably got sick during work time - its only fair, right?
I sometimes have what I call "Mental health days" - just a skive off day, get my head together have some "me" time (kids off to school and the house to myself for once). I recommend it.
PLUS - I do hope you're feeling better soon. Drink plenty of fluids(whisky is good....)
so...

Hehe, just noticed my typo - NAUGHTINESS!
Enjoy the w/e
Hi OC, thankfully it's not an official week off work - I'm purely off "sick" fair and square. As for additions to the list: Laura has already picked out quite a few - though I could add This Morning quite easily. And kids TV - though that doesn't quite fit "trash". There's something very traditional about watching kids TV when you're at home sick.
Amanda - your mental health days sound a fabulous idea! A few years ago I rarely took sick time off but eventually learnt that you are not thought any better for sacrificing your health in this way. Since then I take sick leave whenever I need it and don't even feel guilty. I want to keep my health for me and my family not for my employers!
Ha ha - that's a good point Kate... not sure where the phrase "moping around" originated from!
Annie, my eyes were so blurred when I first read it that it looked fine to me! Am feeling a little better today but am going to take it easy.
Like a nap in the afternoon, you feel slightly guilty but it feels brilliant!
That sums it up rather nicely!
Take advantage of the break. It's the only perk of being ill. Do you really have to go back Monday? ;-)
Great excuse to stay at home with a bottle of Lucozade and a stack of Beanos! Get well soon.
I have plenty of days when all I want to do is drink - I had never before realised that that indicated illness. But now I know! And I shall go quietly next time and succumb to copious quantities of whisky and loose women with good grace.
Hopefully you are feeling a bit better now. But don't rush back to work eh? Maybe it would be safest to stay off on Monday just to check you are really OK.
But what are these Loose Women anyway and where do I find them?
I must admit Rol, although I feel inwardly better, people around me are telling me I sound and look worse... so I could strecth it I suppose though it would mean a trip to the GP to get a proper sicknote. However, deep down I guess I'm planning to drag my heels into the office tomorrow most nobly and relunctantly.
Cheers Nora - haven't read the Beano for years alas: they don't make it like they used to! Harry Potter is proving a good sick bed companion though - started the last novel today: no spoilers please anyone!
Thanks Gina - Loose Women: information can be gleaned here. Actually for all it's called Loose Women it's more like Uptight Women. They invited Joan Rivers on the show and then threw her off when she used the F word. I mean, really! What did they expect? However, the show is something to occupy the mind while you eat lunch and requires very little response or input from you as the audience. Sorry if I got your hopes up!
Oh! I am a little disappointed. Not really the kind of Loose Women I had dreamed of. Oh well. Better get on with some work I suppose!!
Hope you are feeling better?
Get well soon, Steve, and hope you've managed to resist Jeremy Kyle or you could end up feeling worse than you did before you switched on the set!
